1. Structural Lumber

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
6x6 posts (deck structure) 9 pcs, variable length (A4.0) 9 pcs 6x6x12' #2 PT SYP GC ✓ 12' allows plenty of cutoff for slope
4x4 posts (railing) 10 pcs @ 3 FT (A4.0) 10 pcs 4x4x8' #1 PT SYP GC ? 8' is much longer than 3'. Store anticipated posts extending from below rim joist up to guardrail — this is CORRECT for through-bolted guard posts (bolt below joist + extends up to 36" + cap). Plan A4.0 spec of 3' is unrealistic; store upgraded appropriately.
2x8 BEAMS 4 pcs @ 14'-6" + 2 pcs @ 13'-6" (A4.0) 4 pcs 2x8x16' + 2 pcs 2x8x14' ? Store upgraded to longer lengths. You'll cut down to actual sizes. Extra scrap available.
2x8 RIM BOARD (straight) 2 pcs @ 16' (A4.0) 3 pcs 2x8x16' (labeled RIM JOIST/BLKG) ? 3 pieces vs plan's 2 — extra piece for blocking (which A1.0 requires at 12" OC at curved rim).
2x8 CURVED RIM BOARD 1 pc @ 15' (A4.0) Not clearly on Order #1 invoice ⚠ VERIFY — Curved rim needs one 15' or 16' piece for kerf-cutting. May be included in the 3 pcs of 16' rim boards; if so, use one of those.
2x8 JOISTS 11 pcs @ 14' (A4.0) 11 pcs 2x8x14' (Order 1) + 5 pcs 2x8x14' (Order 2) = 16 total ✓ Extra 5 pieces cover the 12" OC modification (need ~15-16 joists total vs plan's ~11 at 16" OC)
Deck boards 5/4x6 × 30 pcs variable (plan says PT or composite optional) (A4.0) Trex Transcend Lineage Rainier: 528 LF + 64 LF = 592 LF (grooved) ? Composite substitution — plan lists composite as an option. Store fulfilled with premium Trex.
2x6 RAILING CAPS 1 @ 16', 1 @ 14', 1 @ 12' (A4.0) Matches exactly (RAILING CAPS labeled)
2x4 HORIZONTAL RAILING SUPPORT 2 @ 16', 2 @ 14', 2 @ 12' (A4.0) 4 @ 16', 2 @ 12' (labeled HOR. RAILING SUPPORT) ? Total pieces = 6 (matches plan). Lengths differ — store swapped 2× 14' for 2× 16'. Extra material is fine, but no 14' pieces means you'll cut down from 16's for the 14' spans.
Fascia (1x10 PT per plan) 1x10 PT × 3 pcs (16', 14', 12') (A4.0) Trex Transcend Lineage 1x12 Rainier × 9 pcs (12') ? Composite fascia substitution + upgrade to 1x12. Better for pool environment; matches deck color.
2x12 STAIR STRINGERS Plan A3.3: 2x10 min. stringer 4 pcs 2x12x10' #1 PT SYP GC ✓ Upgrade from 2x10 to 2x12 — stronger. 10' length is plenty for typical stair rise. Note: all 4 pieces are consumed by stringers — they do NOT also cover treads (see 2x6 row below).
Stair treads & riser boards A3.3 shows treads; risers must reject a 4" sphere (stair >30" above grade) 12 pcs 2x6x16' (Order 2) ✓ Allocate the Order #2 2x6 stock: two 2x6 per tread (≈11-1/4" with gap, matches 10" run + nosing) and one 2x6 per riser opening (closes the opening to ~2-1/4" — passes 4" sphere rule). Uses ~5 of the 12 pieces; remainder covers stair rail cap and benches. Alternative: buy 3× 2x12x8 for single-board treads.
2x2 BALUSTERS "BALUSTERS TO BE 2X2s" (A3.2 detail 03) — but omitted from A4.0's lumber list (DecksGo assumes their aluminum Snap'n Lock kits, listed separately: 11 deck + 3 stair kits) NOT ON EITHER INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — ~130 balusters (~112 deck at 4-1/2" OC over ~42' of rail + ~15-18 stair). Buy ~45 pcs 2x2x8' PT (3 balusters each at ~28"), or the Snap'n Lock kits. This was missing from every list — plan, invoices, and earlier drafts of these docs.

2. Post Anchor Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Post base for 6x6 "Pre-manufactured post base with post anchor" (A3.1 detail 01) 9 × Simpson ABA66Z Z-MAX ✓ ABA66Z is standard 6x6 surface-mount base (Simpson spec: 920 lb uplift, 11,415 lb download)
Concrete anchor Plan A3.1 detail 03: concrete screw, wedge bolt, or expansion bolt 9 × 1/2" x 5-1/2" Torquemaster Blue Wedge Anchor Hot Galv ✓ Bushka's standard pairing with the ABA66Z for residential deck loads. Plenty of pullout capacity — 1/2" wedge anchor in cured concrete typically exceeds the ABA66Z's 920 lb uplift rating.
Post-to-base fasteners Simpson ABA66Z spec: (8) 0.162" × 3-1/2" nails (16d common) OR (8) SD10 × 2-1/2" Strong-Drive Connector screws per anchor NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — Simpson SD10 × 2-1/2" Strong-Drive Connector Screws (SD10212), ~75 (8 per anchor × 9 anchors, plus a few extras)

3. Beam Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
#10 wood screws for beam lamination "#10 WOOD SCREWS MIN. 2-1/2" LONG, STAGGERED IN 2 ROWS. 16" TYPICAL. 2 THREADED SCREWS AT EACH END" (A3.1 detail 02) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — ~100 screws (1 lb box)
Beam-to-post bolts "(2) 1/2" DIAMETER × 6" LONG (MIN.) BOLTS WITH WASHERS" (A3.1 detail 01) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 18 bolts + 36 washers + 18 nuts (2 per beam-post × 9 posts). Buy 6-1/2" length — plan's 6" minimum leaves only ~1/2" of thread past 5-1/2" of wood (2-1/2" post + 3" beam), which is marginal for washer + nut.

4. Joist Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Hurricane ties "Pre-manu. mechanical fastener or hurricane clip, OR threaded toe-nails" (A3.1 detail 04) 50 × Simpson H2.5AZ Z-MAX ✓ Need ~45-48 for 12" OC (15-16 joists × 3 beams); 50 provides buffer of 2-5 (tight)
Face-mount joist hangers Only needed if attaching to ledger (A3.1 detail 04 — but this is a FREESTANDING deck) 35 × Simpson LUS28Z Z-MAX ✗ RETURN — Not needed for freestanding deck. Joists sit ON TOP of beams with hurricane ties per plan.
Structural screws for hurricane ties Simpson H2.5AZ spec: (5) 0.131" × 2-1/2" nails OR (5) SD9 × 1-1/2" screws per side — 10 total per tie NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — Simpson SD9 × 1-1/2" Strong-Drive Connector Screws (SD9112), 500-count box (10 per tie × 45-48 ties = 450-480 needed)

5. Rim Joist Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Construction adhesive for kerf cuts "APPLY BEADS OF CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE ALONG KERF CUTS" (A1.0 detail 02) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — PL Premium Exterior × 3 tubes
Structural screws for rim-to-joist "SCREW RIM JOIST TO JOISTS" (A1.0 detail 02) — no specific fastener called out NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 3" GRK RSS or SDWS22 structural screws (1 lb box)

6. Diagonal Bracing Hardware

REQUIRED per plan: Deck exceeds 2' above grade, so diagonal bracing is mandatory (A3.4 detail 02).
ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
2x4 diagonal bracing lumber Not itemized in A4.0 material list (footnote says "does not include material for blocking for diagonal supports on posts") NOT ON INVOICE (invoice has 2x4s but those are for railing support) ⚠ NEED TO BUY — Approximately 40 linear feet of 2x4 PT
Diagonal bracing bolts "3/8" DIAMETER × 8" LONG (MIN.) BOLTS WITH WASHERS" (A3.4 detail 02) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 3/8" × 8" carriage bolts × ~30 (2 per brace × 12 braces = 24 needed, plus buffer) + washers + nuts

7. Railing / Guardrail Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Post-to-beam caps NOT called for (plan uses notched posts) 9 × Simpson LPC6Z ✗ RETURN — Following plan's notched-post method
Guardrail post to joist bolts "4 - 1/2" DIAMETER X 6" LONG (MIN.) BOLTS AND WASHERS" per 4x4 railing post (A3.2 Railing Post note). The 6x6 "Joist Connected Guard Post" alternate detail (A3.2 detail 02) shows 1/2" × 8" carriage bolts; the stair guardrail detail (A3.3) shows 2 thru-bolts per post. NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 1/2" × 6-1/2" carriage bolts × 40 (4 per post × ~10 posts) + washers + nuts. Earlier drafts of this doc said 2 per post — that matches only the stair detail; the deck railing posts get 4 per the plan.
Baluster attachment screws/nails "2 - #8 WOOD SCREWS OR 2 - 8d POST-FRAME THREADED NAILS" per baluster (A3.2 detail 03) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — #8 exterior wood screws (2-1/2" long), 5 lb box (~600 screws — 2 per baluster × ~130 balusters × top & bottom)
Top/bottom rail attachment "2 - 8d THREADED NAILS OR 2 - #8 WOOD SCREWS MIN. 2-1/2" LONG" (A3.2 detail 03) Included in #8 screw box above ⚠ Covered by #8 screw purchase above
Cap rail screws Not specifically called out NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 3" structural screws (already listed for rim)

8. Stair Hardware

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Sloped joist hanger for stringers "Sloped joist hanger, minimum downloaded capacity of 625 lbs" (A3.3) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — Simpson LSCZ (adjustable) × 4 (one per stringer if using 4 stringers, or fewer if using 2-3)
Stair guardrail post bolts "2 - 1/2" THRU-BOLTS AND WASHERS" (A3.3) NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 1/2" x 6" or 8" bolts × 4-6 (2 per stair guardrail post × 2-3 posts) — can share with guardrail bolts above
Stringer-to-tread fasteners Not specified NOT ON INVOICE ⚠ NEED TO BUY — 3" structural screws (covered above)

9. Concrete / Foundation

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Sonotubes "10" DIA. CONC SONOTUBE W/ 24" BELL FOOTING" (A1.0, A2.0) 9 × 12" x 4' Sonotube (installed) ✓ 12" installed — larger than plan spec (10"). Larger footings = more bearing area and more concrete used. Structurally superior to plan, no issue.
Concrete Not specified (any 3000+ psi) 34 bags Quikrete 5000 ✓ Excellent choice — 5000 psi, high-strength (already used)

10. Decking Accessories

ItemPlan Calls ForInvoice ShowsStatus
Hidden clips Not specified (composite optional) 6 boxes Trex Universal Hidden Clips (~540 clips) ✓ Need ~464 at 12" OC — note the 50 sq ft/box rating assumes 16" OC, so our 12" OC consumes clips ~33% faster. ~75-clip buffer is adequate.
Face-screw plugs Not specified 3 boxes 80ct Trex Solid Board Plugs ✓ For perimeter and curved edge face-screwing (240 plugs vs ~130 needed). Plugs only — screws sold separately, see next row.
Plug-system screws for Transcend boards Not specified Only 1 box 75ct 2" screws marked "FOR TREX ENHANCE BOARDS ONLY" ⚠ NEED TO BUY / VERIFY — boards are Transcend Lineage, not Enhance. Confirm with Bushka which screw seats the Rainier plugs in Transcend (e.g., Cortex for Trex Transcend 2-3/4"); need ~150. Don't build the face-screw plan around the Enhance-only box.
Fascia plug screws Not specified 2 boxes Trex Composite Fascia Plug Screws (75ct each) ✓ For attaching Trex fascia
Joist tape (protection) Not specified (best practice add) 1 box 3-1/8" + 5 boxes 1-5/8" Trex Protect ✓ Excellent — protects joists/beams from water, especially important on pool deck

Items to Verify Before Building

  1. Curved rim 15' 2x8: Not clearly on Order #1 invoice as separate item. Verify with store that one of the 3 pcs 2x8x16' (labeled RIM JOIST/BLKG) can be used for the curved rim (16' cut down to 15').
  2. 2x4 railing support quantities: Plan wants 2×16', 2×14', 2×12'. Invoice has 4×16', 2×12'. You'll cut down 2 of the 16' pieces to 14' lengths. Total footage covered.
  3. Sloped joist hangers for stairs: Plan A3.3 requires 625 lb capacity. Simpson LSCZ or similar. Order these before starting stairs.
  4. Trex plug-system screws: The 2" screws on hand are labeled "Enhance boards only." Ask Bushka which screw seats the Rainier plugs in Transcend Lineage boards (~150 needed).
  5. Stair tread choice: Two 2x6 per tread from the Order #2 stock (recommended — on hand), or buy 3× 2x12x8 for single-board treads. Either way, add riser boards (one 2x6 each) so no stair opening passes a 4" sphere.

Positive Substitutions (Better Than Plan Spec)

The hardware store made several UPGRADES from the plan spec that you benefit from:

Items to Discuss with Inspector Before Starting

  1. Pool safety barrier requirements — CT may require 48" barrier around pools. Verify if the 36" deck rail satisfies pool barrier code, or if additional gates/fencing needed.
  2. Freestanding deck footings — Confirm your pour depth passes CT frost requirements (typically 42" minimum in most of CT; some jurisdictions require 48"). Plan A2.0 shows footings at 5'-0" underside-to-grade which exceeds both.
  3. Diagonal bracing plan — Some inspectors want a specific layout diagram of diagonal bracing before construction.
  4. Composite decking approval — Trex Transcend Lineage is IRC-approved but confirm with local inspector.
